Sacro Bosco di Bomarzo

A new visual identity and communication system for the Sacro Bosco di Bomarzo, developed collaboratively with a team of five designers. The project spans the entire visitor experience, from wayfinding, signage and physical applications to editorial materials, social media, website and advertising, while rethinking the park’s routes and interpretive tools to reveal its historical, symbolic and cultural complexity.

Overview

Enter the mistery

The project began with the challenge of creating a new identity for a place that resists a single interpretation. Built in the 16th century by Vicino Orsini, the Sacro Bosco of Bomarzo is a labyrinth of monumental sculptures, symbols and architectural elements where myth, history, nature and imagination coexist. Rather than imposing one definitive reading, the new visual system was designed to embrace this complexity and encourage visitors to explore the park through different perspectives.

Together with a team of five designers, we developed a comprehensive communication system that connects the identity of the park with the physical and digital visitor experience. The project includes a new wayfinding system and the design of its physical signage, interpretive panels, maps, tickets, brochures and a complete visitor guide, alongside social media content, website, advertising materials and a promotional video. These elements work together to introduce the park’s different layers of meaning while maintaining a consistent visual language throughout the experience.

Particular attention was given to the visitor routes, rethinking how the park could be experienced through different keys of interpretation. From a free exploration route to thematic paths focused on mythology and alchemy, the system provides tools for orientation and deeper understanding without removing the possibility of getting lost, which remains an essential part of the experience. The result is an identity that does not simply explain the Sacro Bosco, but invites visitors to enter its mysteries and construct their own reading of the park.
